University Diploma in French Studies (DUEF)The University Diploma in French Studies (DUEF) is an intensive one-semester course to learn French and discover French culture, and for more advanced levels, to discover the French university methodology.
The DUEF comprises the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), from A1 to C2. Students who pass the assessments obtain a university diploma for their level.
Target population
Non-French-speaking international students, trainees in vocational training for non-native speakers.
Prerequisites
Applicants must have a baccalauréat or equivalent diploma.
Timetable
We offer two 12-week courses per year:
- Semester 1: September to December,
- Semester 2: January to April.
NB: beginners are only accepted in semester 1
Number of hours
216 hours per course.
Rate
18 hours per week.
Number of students per group
Maximum 25 students
Tuition fee
- for one course: €1,670
- for one academic year (two courses): €3,340.
This fee includes:
- 216 hours of intensive French language lessons, i.e. 18 hours per week,
- Sitting the Diploma in French Language Studies (DELF) or the Diploma in Advanced French Language Studies (DALF),
- Access to cultural activities,
- Access to the various university services: library and university restaurants, preventive medicine etc.
The fee does not include (non-exhaustive list):
- the student life and campus contribution (CVEC) (€103 per year),
- access to sports activities (€25 per year),
- accommodation, food and all other personal expenses.

Registration procedure
Registration form (pdf - 160Ko) to be completed, dated and signed, and returned to clubs.inscription @ listes.univ-ubs.fr (clubs.inscription @ listes.univ-ubs.fr), together with the following supporting documents:
- a copy of your secondary education diploma (equivalent to the French baccalauréat, diploma giving access to higher education in your country), with a French translation of the diploma,
- a copy of your identity papers/passport,
- a passport photo.
Terms of payment
- Registration for one semester: €1,670
- Down payment of €500 on pre-registration,
- Balance of €1,170 to be paid at the start of the semester course.
- Registration for two semesters: €3,340
- Down payment of €1,335 on pre-registration,
- Balance of €1,170 to be paid before the start of the course in the first semester.
- €835 to be paid before the start of the course in the second semester.
Refund policy
The fees must be paid at the latest on arrival at the Southern Brittany University. All one-semester courses started are due in full and cannot be refunded. Furthermore, all one-semester courses paid for in advance imply acceptance of the services and will not be refunded.
The UBS Language Centre reserves the right to cancel a one-semester course for a level if there are not enough students.
A refund may be given for one of the following reasons, on production of official written proof:
- medical grounds (certificate issued by a doctor or hospital etc.),
- visa refusal (document issued by a consulate or embassy etc.).
