European University Emerge
European University EmergeAs part of the Erasmus+ 2021-2027 program launched by the European Commission, UBS joined the circle of major “European Universities” alliances in June 2024. Named EMERGE, it comprises a total of 9 universities.
The ambition of this partnership is to create a European campus based on a common characteristic of the 9 universities: their location in peripheral regions of Europe. The EMERGE alliance (which stands for “Empowering the Margins of Europe through Regional and Global Engagement”) is rooted in the shared problems of regions far removed from major metropolises.
- Université de Limerick / UL - Ireland - Project coordinator
- Université de La Corogne / UDC - Spain
- Université Rennes 2 / UR2 - France
- Université Bretagne Sud / UBS - France
- Université de Sciences Appliquées Inland / INN - Norway
- Université Matej Bel / UMB - Slovakia
- Université Européenne de Flensburg / EUF - Germany
- Université Neapolis Paphos / NUP - Cyprus
- Université Democritus Thrace / DUTH - Greece
These universities come together around the theme of spatial and territorial margins. The alliance focuses on societal issues involving minorities or marginalized groups. EMERGE's training and research projects will be developed around the alliance's keywords: inclusion, solidarity, resilience, multilingualism/multiculturalism and sustainability.
European funding will enable the alliance to step up internationalization, in particular by offering short-term and hybrid mobility programs to reach out more to precarious students, as well as integrating regional minority languages into the program and eventually setting up joint European degrees.
Currently coordinated by the University of Limerick, the consortium began working together in 2019. Since then, the partners have continued to cooperate on various projects with the aim of better representing the spaces on the periphery that characterize them. It is in this collective and participatory spirit that the alliance was selected on June 28, 2024 by the European Commission. (Coordinator's statement)
The UBS is thus committed to involving its regional partners in this project to innovate and promote our know-how, and to opening up to internationalization, an essential vector of attractiveness.
